Privacy and data

PureCutCNC has no accounts and no cloud storage. Your projects and settings stay on your own computer. This page lists what the app stores and what it sends over the network.

Projects

Section titled “Projects”
  • A project is a .camj file. It exists only where you save it: the app does not upload it or keep a copy anywhere else.
  • In the web app, Open project reads a file you choose, and Save project writes the file through your browser’s save dialog or downloads it. The project is processed entirely in the browser.
  • Imported files (SVG, DXF, STL, OBJ, STEP, .camj, and backdrop images) are read on your computer and are never uploaded.

Settings stored on this device

PureCutCNC keeps its preferences in the browser’s local storage, or in the desktop app’s own storage. They are not part of any project and are not sent anywhere.

Stored Examples
Appearance The selected theme or System mode, and your custom themes
Language The selected language and your custom language packs
Machines The machine definitions under My machines
Layout Collapsed sections, panel sizes, and the 2D toolpath renderer choice
Desktop updates The selected Update Channel

Clearing the site data for PureCutCNC in your browser removes these settings, including custom themes, language packs, and machines. Export the ones you want to keep first; see Themes and appearance, Interface languages, and Machines.

Network requests

Request App When What is sent
Loading the app Web When you open the web app Ordinary requests for the app’s files to the site host, GitHub Pages. The app loads parts such as the STEP importer, the tool library, and the examples from the same site when it first needs them.
Page analytics Web only When the web app loads A page-view count to GoatCounter (purecutcnc.goatcounter.com), which loads its counting script from gc.zgo.at. No project data is included. The desktop app has no analytics.
Update check Desktop only Only when you choose Check for Updates… A request to purecutcnc.github.io for the latest version file of the selected channel and your platform. Nothing from your projects is included.
Links Both Only when you click one Links such as the website, source code, releases, and downloads open in your browser.

The desktop app does not check for updates in the background and does not download or install updates by itself. See Desktop updates.
