Warnings and messages

PureCutCNC reports messages where it has enough information to identify a condition worth reviewing. Read the message where it appears, then correct the project or export setting before continuing.

Operation properties can report geometry, target, tool, depth, clamp, tab, or generation conditions. A warning tells you what to inspect; it does not by itself mean that generation or export is impossible. An error indicates that the operation cannot produce a valid result until corrected.

The Export G-code dialog separates Errors from Warnings. Errors include no selected machine, no selected operation, a missing tool, an out-of-date preview, or an unsupported required capability. Warnings can describe a fallback or a generated-toolpath condition. Read both, but do not imply that every warning blocks export.

Check the named operation, tool, machine, and project settings first. Regenerate after an edit, inspect the toolpath and simulation, then reopen export if the preview is out of date. If the message concerns a custom machine, compare the definition with your controller documentation.

Message concerns What it means What to check
Target or geometry The chosen features do not meet the operation’s role, shape, or depth requirements. Read the target hint; check Add/Subtract/Model roles, closed contours, region filters, and Z ranges.
Entry or strategy fallback The requested entry, orbit, or link could not fit the geometry, so a different move may have been generated. Inspect the first cut and all fallback locations in the preview; change the entry or geometry if necessary.
Clamp avoidance A cut was kept away from recorded workholding, potentially leaving material uncut or skipping a hole. Check the physical clamp positions, clearances, uncut area, and simulation before machining.
Neighbouring parts An outside route was shortened to preserve another part’s material. Check the uncut outline, part spacing, and tool diameter; do not assume the part will separate.
Tabs A tab can block the final depth, miss the route, or overlap another tab. Check every tab crossing and the final-depth pass, especially after nesting or changing a contour.
3D model or mesh The model is unreachable, too dense, or protected material limits a pass. Check the model, tool, region, mesh detail, and the operation’s protected area.
Machine or post-processor A requested output feature may be unavailable or expanded into other moves. Verify canned-cycle, arc, coolant, and tool-change support against the selected machine and inspect the G-code preview.

The full message names the affected operation or location when available. These categories are a starting point, not permission to ignore a warning: resolve its specific condition and verify the resulting motion before cutting.

Outside route around … was kept clear of neighbouring parts — part of its outline is left uncut. means the cutter could not follow the full outline without entering another part’s material. Inspect the named part’s route, increase clearance or choose a suitable smaller tool, then regenerate. The part can remain attached at the omitted section even if the rest of the route reaches final depth. See Edge route outside.

Inside and outside edge routes report on tabs touching their target walls or crossed by their cutting paths, not every tab on the sheet. For example, tabs on a letter’s outside contour are not automatically relevant to an inside route through its counter.

  • Tab “…” does not intersect the selected operation toolpath. A tab on one of the operation’s target walls is not crossed by the generated route. Check its position and whether a region or neighbouring part left that section uncut.
  • Tabs “…” and “…” overlap in a way that may produce ambiguous output. Inspect the named pair’s shape and Z range. Overlapping rectangular tabs with the same Z top and Z bottom cut as a combined bridge without this warning; overlapping smooth tabs or tabs with different Z ranges can still warn.

An absent warning does not prove that tabs provide adequate support. Check their crossings and the final-depth cut in the preview and simulation; see Tabs.
